Fast Processor and Graphics processor designed for video

Unlike Smart TV's and other media players, the LASER S30 media player is powered by a Quad Core processor (CPU) and a dedicated 8 Core Graphics processor (GPU). This means that video processing is handled by the hardware (instead of software) which results in smoother movies (faster frame rate), quicker load times and it's faster for chapter search, rewind and fast forward. In addition, fast DDR3 memory with 2GB RAM and 8GB Flash memory means less wait time and faster app switching. This is particularly important with high resolution video (like 4K UHD) and high compression files. The Quad core Amlogic S812 will hardware decode all files. Meaning more efficient and faster decoding and smooth 4K playback.

4k Ultra HD resolution ready, 4k upscaling and 1080p

So you've got a 4k TV or you're wondering what am I going to play on a 4k TV? The LASER S30 4k Media player can play all sorts of content such as Netflix 4k, movies from torrents, home compilations or even 4k images from a GOPRO. Upscaling from lower resolutions makes your old content look awesome and better still, the S30 produces images and video in stunning clarity, vivid colour and sharp detail that will make the best of new generation UHD TV’s. Even Full HD 1080p and 720p TV also looks great as the GPU is able to produce the full range of colours with fast refresh and smooth frame rate.

Digital Surround Sound or 2 channel stereo

All sound formats from 2 channel stereo to AC3; prologic and Dolby Digital and DTS are available. Choose from an optical toslink output or HDMI. In addition, FLAC lossless HD audio is supported for those with high end audio systems. Alternately connect the 3.5mm L/R stereo output to a TV audio input (normally RCA red and white) to get a downmix 2 channel stereo.

3D ready*

Watch eye popping 3D content from files (like BDMV / 3D BD-ISO or streamed 3D movies). With the superior 8 core GPU, 3D movies are produced with less flicker, and processing for L/R (active or passive displays) is cleaner.

Ready for Netflix and other streaming services

Netflix and Quickflix are preloaded and ready to go. All you need is an account, which is free and right now you can get 1 month of Netflix or 2 months of Quickflix movies free. Other services such as STAN and PRESTO are available for download from the Google Play store.

DLNA

Connect the LASER S30 to your DLNA enabled network so you can view and playback content from your network of DLNA devices. So imagine that you have some pictures or a movie on a NAS drive or even on another media device somewhere else in your household/office (same network). Simply select the file from the DLNA directory menu on the S30 and play. The days of finding a USB flash drive, copying the files and playing back on a media player are over! centralise and organise your content.

Miracast and Airplay ready

Share your tablet or smartphone screen onto your TV for everyone to see. (it’s like HDMI only wireless). So how can I use this...well imagine sharing your holiday pics on the big screen, or playing a game by viewing the image on your TV but controlling the game with your tablet/smartphone. Music on your smartphone can be sent to your TV via the LASER S30 or how about movies or TV shows playing on your tablet but viewed on your TV...you get the picture.

Ethernet connection (LAN)

With 10/100 Ethernet, connect a standard cat 5 (or 6) cable to the RJ45 network port (like on your router/modem) to get a fast and secure connection.

Android OS Smarts

Google Android 4.4 is optimised for media centres (as well as tablets and smartphones of course). Multi-tasking is faster, file navigation is simpler and it supports all the latest hardware including Bluetooth LE4.0.

Google Play Store

The Google Play Store has more than 1.5million apps available. Download all your favourite apps straight onto LASER S30 media player with a Google/Gmail account (free of course). The Google Play store is not just for apps.... you can get music, books, magazines, movies, games and television programs to use on the LASER S30 - many of which are free to download or trial.

USB Ports and Micro SD input

Connect USB flash drives, hard drives or input devices like mice, keyboards or web cams or read content from a Micro SD card.

HDMI or Analogue AV output

Connect to older TV’s via Composite video and L/R stereo (cable included) or connect to new TV’s with HDMI for the ultimate in sound and vision.

Ready for Video conferencing via Skype

Easy connection and easy setup will get your friends and family on the big screen with Skype Video calling. (Skype web cam not included)

Wireless Connectivity

Wifi and Bluetooth on board means that you can connect to wireless networks or connect wireless products to the media player. Some examples; headsets / headphones, speakers, mice, keyboards and gaming controllers, storage devices, IP and web cameras (some), mobile phones and tablet devices and so on.

Miracast

Miracasting is essentially HDMI over the Wi-Fi. It allows you to connect to your TV and display the content that you have on your smartphone or tablet device. Simple and easy to use, Miracasting allows users to display images, movies, streaming content, web browsers and anything that you can see on your portable device onto your TV. It works across devices, regardless of brand. Miracast devices negotiate settings for each connection, which simplifies the process for the users. In particular, it obviates having to worry about format or codec details.

4K x 2K, 3D support

Hardware decoding up to 4K which can support the real 4K output. 4K streaming content is compressed in order to be sent across the internet to your TV. Hardware powerful enough to decompress this content is needed to display 4K content on your television. High definition content is streamed using the H.264 Codec. This requires a lower specification media player to process. Our media player will process both these and many more codecs.

Kodi and XMBC

Kodi™ (formerly known as XBMC™) is an award-winning free and open source (GPL) software media center for playing videos, music, pictures, games, and more. Kodi runs on Linux, OS X, Windows, iOS, and Android, featuring a 10-foot user interface for use with televisions and remote controls. It allows users to play and view most videos, music, podcasts, and other digital media files from local and network storage media and the internet.

Hardware vs Software decoding

The Amlogic S812 Cortex A9 will hardware decode your codec to ensure smooth playback every time. Software decoding isn’t the best option because it’s not terribly efficient. Building a hardware decoder into a chip allows for more efficient operation, which means better performance on chips with modest grunt and improved efficiency.

Cortex A9 designed specifically for Media Players.

The Amlogic S812 Cortex A9 has been designed specifically for Media players. Quad-core ARM Cortex A9-based SoC with ARM Mali-450 MP6 GPU running at 600 MHz with hardware support for decoding up to 4K. Some Cortex A9 chips in the market such as the Amlogic M802 have been designed for tablets. They will support software decoding of 4K but will not support hardware decoding.

Amlogic Chips for media Players

The Laser MMCS30 Smart Media Player uses the Amlogic S812 – Same as S802 but adding video decoding up to 4K and Gigabit Ethernet. This makes it more future proof than S802, and it could potentially be used as a media centre with a USB hard drive and Gigabit Ethernet connection. The S812 is the only Amlogic Media Player chip capable of streaming 4K media content.
